Lake Trollsjön (Rissajaure)

What an epically beautiful place! With a day trip of about six kilometers one way, you not only get to experience Sweden’s clearest lake (Lake Trollsjön), but also the magnificent environment in which the lake is located. Deep into a valley that ends with steep mountain sides all around. Even the hike up through Stendalen (stone valley) to the lake is exceptionally beautiful. I have only visited the place in the summer and in the middle of the day. It has therefore not been the best lighting conditions for me and my pictures are not really representative of the beauty of the area.

Best Time to Photograph The Location

I have only been here in the summer, but I think that during the entire snow-free season there are good opportunities for dramatic landscape photography. During the month of June with the midnight sun the light is probably at its best. The valley to the lake comes from the north and the rest of the year there is hardly any sun down on the lake during sunrise and sunset. However, the area is suitable for dramatic landscape photography. With dark clouds and the dramatic terrain you will be able to create images that look like they were taken from The Lord of the Rings.

How To Find The Location

You park at Låktatjåkka in a large parking lot right by European Route E10 just a few kilometers from the border with Norway. The path up to the lake is both easy to find and easy to follow.
